Whether you are a Disney Movie fan or not if you have a HEART, I encourage you to read on! I was listening to music on You Tube and there were two Disney songs that played back to back. The first was from the Lion King – Can You Feel the Love Tonight. The second was from Hercules – I Won’t Say I’m In Love.
These songs made me begin to ponder how our HEARTS are very delicate. Biologically, the importance of the heart to the human body is a life maintaining organ which pumps and circulates the oxygenated blood throughout our body.
Emotionally, the heart requires much more explanation. According to Dean Ornish, MD, “Study after study has shown that people who feel lonely, depressed, and isolated are many times more likely to get sick and die prematurely – not only of heart disease but from virtually all causes – than those who have a sense of connection, love and community.”
However, many people are afraid of connection, love, and community. They are afraid of getting hurt or possibly even getting hurt again. This fear can show up in the body. Many people who live with this fear actually experience a body posture where the shoulders rotate forward suggesting a guarding action. When you guard your heart the intent is often to block the potential hurt and attack yet, at the same time, you lock away feelings of warmth and nourishment.
If you would like to explore healing and opening your heart, I invite you to consider attending a workshop that I am co-facilitating with Dana Zarcone titled – The Anatomy of Love. Click here for more details and to register.
