Grief & Loss Counseling

Grief is the emotional suffering you feel when something or someone you love is taken away.  It is a natural response.

The more significant the loss, the more intense the grief will be. You may associate grief with the death of a loved one—which is often the cause of the most intense type of grief—but any loss can cause grief, including:  loss of health, losing a job, loss of financial stability, loss of friendship, death of a pet just to name a few.

Grieving is a personal and highly individual experience. How you grieve depends on many factors including:

  • your personality and coping style
  • your own life experience
  • your faith
  • the nature of the loss
  • the support structure you have to help you through the process.

No one way of grieving is better than another. Some people are more emotional and dive into their feelings; others are stoic and may seek distraction from dwelling on an unchangeable fact of living. While many difficult and complicated emotions are associated with the grieving process, experiences of joy, contentment, and humor are not absent during this difficult time. Self-compassion, physical exercise, and strong social support can all contribute to alleviating some of the most challenging aspects of grief.

The grieving process takes time. Healing happens gradually; it can’t be forced or hurried—and there is no “normal” timetable for grieving. Some people start to feel better in weeks or months. For others, the grieving process is measured in years. Whatever your grief experience, it’s important to be patient with yourself and allow the process to naturally unfold.

If you are experiencing grieving, it is important to be well supported.   Core Energetics can help.

Many times when a loss is experienced and you are grieving, you have intense feelings such as anger, frustration, confusion and sadness.  You may not feel comfortable with these feelings and need to be supported.

When we work together, you are given the opportunity in a safe environment to explore your feeling and feel supported.  You may often have a tendency to push your feelings down, so you will be provided an opportunity to mobilize and physically express your feelings.

The result of our work together is to provide you with the support you need during this difficult time helping you to heal and re-energize.
